Pre-K students learned about the importance of taking care of the Earth because the Earth also takes care of us. The student started by thinking of all the ways the Earth takes care of us. Then they learned that they could play an important role in taking care of the Earth by recycling their juice boxes in the Triple Bins outside the classroom. We also discussed how some people do not have enough food to eat. The children thought about what it feels like when they get hungry right before snack time. We told them some people feel that way all day long. The Pre-K classes took a field trip to Alstede Farm in Chester with their Third Grade Buddy class. The Pre-K children worked with their Third Grade Buddy to pick eggplants and peppers. It was a terrific opportunity for the Pre-K students to bond with their Third Grade buddies. The Third grade buddies demonstrated admirable leadership as they assisted their buddies in picking the vegetables and navigating the farm terrain. Both Pre-K classes and the third grade harvested over 90 eggplants and over 200 peppers. All the harvested vegetables were donated to Toni’s Soup Kitchen.
