This week the Pre-K classes continued to learn about making graphs. By using the Morning Message to answer question like: “How many letters are in your name?” or “How many people are in your family?” The classes took that information and transferred it into different types of graphs like a bar graph or a line graph. Making graphs is a meaningful way for children to collect, organize, interpret and display data about themselves. Graphing invites children to count and make comparisons, using words like more than, less than, the same as, most and least. Graphing is integrated into our curriculum in meaningful ways in order that the children may have authentic learning and involvement in the data collecting process.
