Hooray for Halloween! Before the festivities began, the children were invited to use instruments to provide the sound effects for a reading of The Little Old Lady Who Wasn’t Afraid of Anything. They were so excited to march in their first Halloween parade at MKA and were delighted to have their parents join them in their classrooms for a fun Halloween party. The children voted on what they thought their classroom jack-o-lantern should look like by voting on the shape of the eyes, nose and mouth. They used number sentences to interpret the data. Before the pumpkin was cut opened, the children estimated how many seeds they thought were inside. Then, each child counted out a set of ten seeds into individual cups. Finally, they used the hundred-chart to help them count to the total number of seeds by groups of tens and ones.
