With Thanksgiving Day approaching, the children became engaged in a discussion about this traditional holiday. The children were encouraged to think about Thanksgiving and what they knew about it. Thanksgiving Day, by Gail Gibbons, was a delightful introduction for young children to the history of the Pilgrims, their quest to find a new home across the North Atlantic Ocean and the hard work they endured as they built homes and procured sustenance from the land. The children heard several books about Thanksgiving and the importance of being thankful for all that they have. After hearing Thanks for Thanksgiving, by Julie Markes, the children shared what they are thankful for.The children gained a deeper understanding of what the word thanksgiving means.
